About ACT II

Act II of Romeo and Juliet begins with the Capulet’s party, where Romeo meets Juliet for the first time. After they share a passionate kiss, Friar Laurence agrees to marry them in secret. Meanwhile, Mercutio and Tybalt get into an argument due to an insult made by one another during the festivities; this leads to Mercutio being killed at Tybalt‚Äôs hands after he refuses help from Romeo who is trying desperately to stop their dueling. In his fury upon seeing his friend die before him, Romeos takes revenge on Tybalt which results in Prince Escalus exiling him from Verona forever as punishment for breaking public peace by killing someone noble like himself (Tybalt). The act ends with Lady Montague passing away out of her sorrow concerning her son being banished while also unknowingly mourning what she believes are false reports about Romeos death
