The Last Best West Customer Service Complaints Department

In 1905, the Canadian government coined the phrase “The Last Best West” to describe their policy of settling land and encouraging immigration into Western Canada. This initiative offered settlers free or low-cost homesteads with incentives such as tax breaks and access to natural resources like timber, water, coal and minerals. The attractive opportunity drew thousands of immigrants from Europe in search for new opportunities on the prairies; not only did this influx provide economic benefits through increased agricultural production (and later industrial development), but it also had a significant cultural impact – introducing different languages, religions and customs that helped form modern western Canada today.
